SLB completed its acquisition of RESMAN Energy Technology on January 21, 2026, bringing wireless reservoir surveillance capabilities into its Digital division. The Norwegian firm specialises in chemical tracer solutions, substances detectable at parts-per-trillion concentrations, that allow operators to monitor reservoir behaviour without installing downhole hardware or halting production.

The Digital division already generates annual revenue growth above 20 per cent, with EBITDA margins at 35 per cent. Recurring revenue in the segment is approaching $1bn annually, reflecting a broader shift at SLB toward software and data services over purely equipment-led offerings.

For operators, the appeal is straightforward. Wireless tracer technology lowers the cost and complexity of long-term reservoir monitoring, supporting more precise production decisions across both mature fields and new developments. Paired with SLB's existing digital infrastructure, RESMAN's platform gives clients faster access to reservoir data without additional capital expenditure.

Investors have been guided toward $400mn in annual pretax synergies within three years. Much of that figure is tied to the ongoing integration of ChampionX throughout 2026. RESMAN's acquisition adds a further layer, expanding the data available to field operators and reinforcing a recurring, high-margin revenue base that underpins SLB's long-term valuation case.

Pressure on operators to extract more value from existing assets, while keeping capital discipline, has made reservoir intelligence a priority across the industry. Whether RESMAN's technology can be scaled broadly across SLB's client base remains to be seen, but the acquisition positions the company to compete on data depth as well as field services.
